The forecast is looking bright for this May’s half-term and outdoor adventure is high on the agenda for LGL kids. From Craven Arms to Croft Castle, explore open gardens, historic houses and our local beauty spots. And if the weather turns, head over to Ludlow Assembly Rooms for story telling and family movies.

Budding botanists & apple adventures with the National Trust

Take part in Berrington Hall’s ‘budding botanists’ trail, where little gardeners can enjoy fun games and activities and learn more about how to look after the natural world. The trail is running every day from Saturday 27 May to Sunday 4 June. Trails cost £3 per child and includes a prize. Normal admissions apply.

At Croft Castle follow the trail around the gardens and explore the life of an apple, from seed to fruit, completing all the fun activities and games as you go. This trail is running from Saturday 27 May to Sunday 4 June. Trails cost £3 per child and includes a prize.

Escape from the Tower Trail at Ludlow Castle

Learn about Roger Mortimer, who lived at Ludlow Castle but was imprisoned in the Tower of London. On the 700th anniversary of his escape in 1323, follow his
journey and collect clues to claim your prize. From 27th May – 4th, 10am – 5pm. June £2.50 per child.

Survival at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre

Find out about surviving out of doors in Craven Arms. Filter water, pick ‘spring greens’ to taste as a stir fry, make a ‘one minute’ fire and build a den. Recommended age 5 – 11 years. Monday 29th May to Friday 2nd June 1pm – 2.30pm. £4.50 per accompanied child. Members £4.05. Booking essential, call 01588 676 060 to book.

Playmakers at Ludlow Assembly Rooms

For anyone aged 7-9 who loves telling stories, Ludlow Assembly room are offering dynamic, exciting and fun practical sessions in which young people can develop confidence and thrive whilst meeting new people and creating new work together. River adventures with Shropshire Raft Tours

Hire a kayak, canoe, mini raft or paddle board and explore seven miles of river and the beautiful Shropshire countryside along a 7 mile route from Coalport to Bridgnorth. Park your vehicle in Bridgnorth where Shropshire Raft Tours will meet you and provide a free shuttle up to the start point. They also offer a breakfast club where you can meet in Coalport where your trip starts and enjoy a tasty breakfast at The Brewery Inn before you head off on the river.  At the end of the trip you will be transported  back to your car. The crew will fit you with a buoyancy aid, paddle, dry bag and helmet (if required) and after a safety briefing we will help you onto the river.  Prices start from £59.00 for a 2-person raft.
