The event is the brainchild of Joint Artistic Director and Chair, Alistair McGowan, who said: “If you can’t wait for the next Ludlow Piano Festival next May, we hope you’ll join us for three piano events with a difference on the first weekend of this November.”
Highlights of the Ludlow Piano Festival Pop-Up Event
Open Piano Friday 3 November 10am – 4pm
Talented, local amateur players are being given the rare chance to play the superb Steinway D in the beautiful surroundings and acoustics of St Laurence’s Church.
While the 20-minute piano sessions are already fully booked, it is a wonderful chance for anyone to sit quietly and listen to a wide breadth of piano music, free of charge, at any time between 10am and 4pm.
Come and go as you like. Enjoy the music, admire the talent in our midst and even enjoy a cup of tea and a piece of cake in the church cafe which will be serving throughout the day. The church will also remain open for visitors, as normal. It’s not a concert, some very lucky people just happen to be playing for your and their own pleasure.
Junior Piano Friday 3 November 6.30pm
Harry Hill introduces an early evening of music from talented local junior pianists (18 and under) who also get the chance to show us just what they can do on the beautiful instrument at St Laurence’s.
This will be a unique and must-see event, with the hugely popular Harry Hill performing a good chunk of his famously absurd and very funny comedy and also introducing our baker’s dozen of brave junior pianists in his inimitable way. Tickets on sale and each adult may be accompanied by an Under 16 free of charge.
Strictly Piano Saturday 4 November 7.30pm
Leading classical pianist, Viv McLean, returns to Ludlow to play a selection of waltzes and tangoes (by Chopin, de Falla, Gershwin and Satie amongst others) which we hope won’t just get your toes tapping but will get you up on your feet and DANCING…..
Local ballroom dancing enthusiasts (from Style Dance School) will lead the way and the audience can join in at any time – or just listen and watch. By all means, dust off your dancing shoes, gowns, tuxedos or tails…. We think it’s a world first! It should be a joyful, memorable much talked-about evening and the perfect end to our pop-up festival. Only a limited number of tickets left.
Tickets for the Ludlow Piano Festival Pop-Up event are available for purchase on the festival’s official website.
