One of Shakespeare’s masterpieces, “Richard III,” brings to life the dramatic events surrounding the Wars of the Roses, and Ludlow plays a significant role in the play’s narrative. It was here that Buckingham proposed a crucial plan to mend the rifts and unite the feuding factions, all for the sake of young Prince Edward, the son of the late King Edward IV.

In one scene, Buckingham declares, “We are to reap the harvest of his son. The broken rancor of your high-swoln hearts, but lately splinter’d, knit, and join’d together, must gently be preserved, cherished, and kept. Me seemeth good, that, with some little train, forthwith from Ludlow, the young prince be fetch’d hither to London, to be crowned our king.”
