Juggling motherhood, running a business and managing clients is no easy challenge. Add to that childcare costs, a busy family life, a pandemic and rising energy costs, and it makes it even more impressive when we see a small business thrive and grow in Ludlow. However, Amy Tulloch manages to make all of this look easy, and it’s no surprise her exquisite salon, set on the banks of the river, will be bursting to the brim with clients, old and new, when she celebrates her 10th business anniversary on Wednesday, 19th April.
LGL managed to snatch 15 minutes in her busy day to ask Amy how she does it all and what top beauty tips she’s offering clients this spring.
Congratulations on your 10th business anniversary! You’re a mum, head therapist and business owner. What has been your biggest challenge thus far?
Thank you so much! Ooh, that’s a good question. On a personal level, it was challenging initially balancing life as a Mum alongside running the business. I found it hard stepping back whilst on maternity leave, but I am so fortunate to have great staff who made it possible for me to do so and did such a great job whilst I was away.
How has the beauty world changed since you first started? Are clients still wanting the same treatments?
The industry is constantly evolving, but everything is better! For example, gel polish wasn’t even a thing when I qualified, but now most clients choose it over regular polish. Of course, our clients still want the classic beauty treatments that we’ve always offered, but over the years, these have been tweaked, improved then new treatments have been added, like the LVL lash lift, which wasn’t around years ago!
What are your top beauty tips for spring ?
My top beauty tips for spring – invest in a good skincare regime coupled with regular professional facials for glowing skin. We love and stock the beauty brand, Medik8. Use a cuticle balm/oil daily to stimulate growth and nourish cuticles for healthy nails. Team this with regular professional manicures and pedicures for silky soft skin and fabulous-looking nails.
Name one treatment you think every client should try
Oooh, a Medik8 Chemical Peel. It sounds scary, but it’s not, and the results are incredible! They can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles, pigmentation, and blemishes and visibly rejuvenate the skin.
You have a fantastic location on the riverside. What are some of the more unusual or exciting sightings you’ve seen?
Yes, it’s a beautiful location, and we are often wildlife spotting from the salon windows. Highlights for us are regularly seeing the otters. We can hear them from inside the salon as they are so noisy, which gives us a chance to run out and see them if we are free! Also, the salmon jumping in the autumn is always fun to watch.
