Lucy and I recently embarked on a captivating journey through Ludlow’s verdant landscapes, guided by the Shropshire Wildlife Trust’s meticulously designed walking route. This delightful loop offered us not only a rejuvenating experience but also a chance to connect with nature in the heart of the town and we are thrilled to share it with you.
In collaboration with South Shropshire Climate Action and the Ludlow Branch of Shropshire Wildlife Trust, the “Walk Through Ludlow’s Green Spaces” leaflet has been unveiled. This beautifully illustrated guide is a testament to the town’s commitment to fostering a deeper connection between its residents and the natural world. It seamlessly weaves together Ludlow’s green spaces, offering glimpses of the remarkable wildlife that thrives along the way, from playful otters and majestic kingfishers along the river Teme to swifts and peregrines gracing the skies near St Laurence’s Church tower.
The leisurely one-and-a-half-hour walk is punctuated with inviting resting spots, ensuring a pleasant experience for all. Even those with additional needs can partake in sections of the walk. Moreover, the leaflet provides valuable suggestions for extensions, allowing explorers to uncover the town’s lesser-known wildlife gems, such as Gallows Bank.
According to the Trust, the self-guided walk leaflet can be used by individuals and groups to enhance their physical and mental wellbeing through the pockets of nature and the wildlife that they can find in Ludlow.
Both the walk leaflet and the A3 posters of the walk feature QR codes so people can access the walk via the South Shropshire Climate Action website (to promote sustainability). The A3 posters are located across town at Ludlow Library, Hands Together Ludlow, health settings, schools and tourist hotspots such as Ludlow Visitor Information Centre encouraging sustainable tourism.
