My wife Mary and I had long held a dream to run a bed & breakfast. We enjoy meeting people and, having stayed in many such establishments, we felt we wanted to do it our way, which led to our owning Upper Buckton B&B in Leintwardine.

Mary already had 12 years’ experience in helping run a B&B business in the Surrey Hills. I spent 20 years in magazine publishing then trained to become a primary school teacher where I lasted nine years before becoming burnt out. Taking a year off, we realised that with our youngest child about to leave school and go to university, it was time to make the move.
I had visited parts of Herefordshire before and knew that I wanted to live in this beautiful part of the world. It is relaxing but there is plenty to keep you active and the people have been unfailingly friendly and helpful. We have really enjoyed exploring Shropshire — it is truly stunning and some of the towns and villages we have come across are fascinating. Living on the Shropshire border and close to Ludlow just makes it perfect
About the B&B
Upper Buckton B&B is a spacious yet cosy 18th century farmhouse with a warm vibe — a comfortable and homely place to stay. Situated in the hamlet of Buckton, close to the charming village of Leintwardine with its pubs, shops and bathing in the river Teme, Upper Buckton is the perfect place for a short or long break.
We want you to feel not like paying guests but as friends. If you want to hang about the house and garden just chilling, that’s fine by us; there’s no expectation that you have to be out for the day.

Eating in
Breakfast and dinner are served in the dining room, with views of the lawn running down to the millstream and a stunning vista of North Herefordshire. There is a roaring fire in the chillier months and tables on the terrace in the warmer ones.
Breakfast is included in the room rate; dinner costs £30. All you need to do to book is let us know the day before that you wish to have an evening meal here and we do the rest. We don’t yet have a drinks licence so bring your own and we will serve it for you.
Out & About
Upper Buckton is close to many attractions from interesting towns to beautiful half-timbered villages, bountiful gardens to medieval castles and Norman cathedrals to Saxon churches, not to mention interesting shops and markets in beautiful Ludlow a mere 20 minutes away.
There are plenty of quiet lanes for cyclists to explore the pretty villages of Herefordshire and Shropshire. Walkers can explore Offa’s Dyke, the Herefordshire Trail and the Shropshire Hills. We keep an extensive range of books with walking and sightseeing ideas plus maps for you to borrow. We will happily help you in advance to plan a day’s itinerary based on your interests and can suggest places to visit as well as where to eat and drink.
If you’re making a day of it, we can provide a substantial, easy to carry picnic, full of delicious morsels ranging from soup and sandwiches, tea and coffee and cake, to fruit and chocolate and even Kendal Mint Cake.
