Thursday 18th February 2021 from 7.30pm – Archaeology is Rubbish!
Or is it? Most people think of archaeologists, kneeling in holes in the ground, painstakingly uncovering the past with brushes and trowels. Although the objects they uncover are hugely important, archaeology has also embraced exciting new technologies to revolutionise our understanding of the past. This talk looks at how some of these new methods have been used to revitalise the story of our ancestors.

Today the garden opens for the National Garden Scheme and was a finalist in The English Garden’s ‘Nation’s Favourite Garden’ competition. In their talk Simon and Simon will show how they have overcome the challenges of their location and created extensive borders, ponds, stone walling, topiary and a kitchen garden that has been merged into the landscape with traditional hay meadows, streamside walks, woodlands and an orchard

Churches with The Churches Conservation Trust Thursday, 18th February, 1pm-2pm. DIVINE DESIGNS: The Secret Lives Of Palaces. The bishops of medieval England wielded great power, and their residences were often as splendid as those built for royalty. At one time, these palaces were scattered liberally throughout the country but now only a handful remain occupied by bishops, while the rest have been destroyed or taken on new uses. This talk will explore the rise and fall of the palaces, and the bishops who inhabited them and put their own mark on them. It will open the doors on some that cannot be visited by the public, as well as highlighting some which can now be freely explored in person. This talk is given by Lisa McIntyre IHBC. Lisa studied Building Conservation at the Architectural Association and specialises in ecclesiastical architecture. She is Church Buildings Team Leader for the Anglican Diocese of Leeds and previously worked as an officer of the Church Buildings Council and as a heritage consultant in the private sector. TO JOIN the lecture, simply make sure that you both LIKE & ALSO FOLLOW ‘Churches Conservation Trust’ as a Facebook page
