Ludlow English Song Weekend has taken place since 2001. Inspired by the musical world of Gerald Finzi, it is a unique celebration of poetry, music, culture, and ideas.
Drawing on the work of a wide range of poets and composers working in the English language, the Weekend explores the sensibility evoked through their art. It offers opportunities to reflect on a distinctive musical tradition, to speculate on what it has taught us, and what it might also teach us as we look to the future.
Although music is at the heart of the weekend the ambition is to offer much more than a series of concerts by branching out into talks and discussions, a film screening and conversation. The weekend also looks forward through a new commission and a competition for young composers.
Ludlow English Song Weekend is a celebration of Ludlow, of Shropshire, and of AE Housman. Above all it is a celebration of literature and music in the English language, and the beautiful landscape and rich history from which it has grown.
Please take a few moments to see what’s on. A stellar cast will be in Ludlow for the weekend – please come and join us for the fabulous events they will create.
