We are Ludlow’s family-owned, one-off, independent wine shop, only a few yards from the iconic castle gates on the market square. We stock over 700 carefully selected wines and spirits (including Sherry, Whisky, Cognac, Rum and Gins) from mostly artisan producers from around the world – including Shropshire.
We, Helen and Will, moved here and opened the business in 2005, just 3 months before Matthew was born a Shropshire Lad. It was a big year for us! We had developed a passion for wine ‘by accident’ whilst working in London – social tastings and evening classes led to professional exams and qualifications. Eventually we decided to make a lifestyle change – leave corporate London and set up on our own in a market town. Ludlow’s foodie reputation made it perfect for a start-up, and we have been very happy to call it our home for over 17 years.
We choose our wines by tasting, firstly for quality and then value for money. If a wine is inexpensive but does not taste good, or tastes good but is too expensive, then we won’t stock it. Our goal is to have “best of breed” that over-perform in terms of enjoyment and quality in every style, region, and at every price point. We stock wines from all over the world and have visited many of the producers you see on our shelves. However, we leave the logistics to specialist importers so we can focus on our job of helping customers and selecting a unique, exciting and affordable range that is always evolving.
