Ah the month of June of roses and summer scents and festivals! What better way to spend a long summer’s evening than listening to live music or watching a performance of Shakespeare in the atmospheric setting of an 11th century English castle?
It’s a busy time in the Marches for music lovers and culture vultures. We list seven festivals in and around the county for you to enjoy.
Shrewsbury kicks off the slate of festivals with their Pub at the Park on 7th and 8th June — a social weekend with over 100 real ales from local breweries, lager bar, a gin den, wine bar, Pimms tent and quirky artisan alcohol to try.
Spoilt for choice, because also on the 7th and 8th June is Hereford’s own foodie festival, showcasing the finest local and national food and drink. There will be 40 street food vendors serving a wide range from Italian, Mexican, cream teas through to crepes. The event also included a farmers’ market, along with a community stage, live music and a kids’ village.
Celebrate National Beer Day at 15th June at Ludlow’s Rose & Crown with their very own Ludlow Magna Carta including live music, tapas and beer, wine and gin trails.
It’s also the start of our fantastically eclectic two weeks of arts, community and cultural events offering live music, stand-up, theatre, visual arts, an art trail and the ever-popular Ludlow Open Gardens. The programme begins on the 15th June but we’ve written all about it here.
Hop down or up (depending on your location) to Hopton Court on 21st June for a beautifully crafted, Midsummer music weekend in a secret walled garden. Brilliant folk, roots and acoustic music line up, three nights camping, real ale, cider & cocktail bars, artisan food court, trade village, yoga and heaps of children's entertainment.
If that’s not enough on 28th June Hopton will also play host to another weekend focusing on fitness, yoga, running, bootcamp, HIIT and meditation. Orbit boasts a brilliant line up of presenters, group sessions, workshops and therapies with live music & DJ stage, artisan food court, real ale, cider, gin and fizz bars plus areas for yoga, HIIT and meditation. Round out the last weekend in June with the superb foodie nirvana that is the Shrewsbury Food Festival on 29th June. Back for it’s seventh year, this Festival boasts over 200 amazing food, drink and artisan craft stalls, two live music stages, cookery demos, hands-on cookery classes, kids cookery, masterclasses and much more.
