Autumn half-term events in Ludlow

We’ve selected nine spooktacular events in and around Ludlow to keep you and your family busy this autumn half-term. So wrap up warm and enjoy a week that’s as much fun for the kids as it is for you!

NEW Pumpkin Picking Fun

The Ludlow Pumpkin Patch at Downton Hall will be open for 7 days between the 14th – 31st October. Grab a wheelbarrow and a hot chocolate while you explore the fields and select your perfect pumpkin, gourd or squash. Pumpkin carving kits will also be available to create the ultimate spooky masterpiece. Tickets are £5 per car, redeemable against pumpkins.

Pumpkin Fest occurs at Woodstock Lane End on the 21 & 22 October and 28/29th October. Expect pumpkins, plants, BBQ, Pizza, local produce, local beers and ciders, tea/coffee and family fun. £5 adults, £3 children over 3yrs, under 3s free. Admission includes one pumpkin.

Bonfire and Fireworks

28th October. With a full bar, catering, family entertainment, and our renowned spectacular fireworks, this is the perfect night out to kick off the October Half Term at Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre.

Gates open at 5 pm, the bonfire is lit at 7 pm, and fireworks start at 7.30 pm. Gates close at 7.15 pm.

Halloween in the grounds of grand houses and a castle

Grab your broomsticks and prepare for a bewitchingly brilliant day out at Stokesay Castle from 28th October. Unearth the Legend of Halloween, Discover the ‘Book of the Dead’, and revel in some frightful fun along the journey. Take part in our Halloween quest and discover magical potion ingredients. Complete the booklet’s activities and solve its creepy clues to become a wonderfully wicked witch’s apprentice!

At Stokesay Court on 29th October, put on your wellies and warm clothes and come for a good walk around the grounds to clear the cobwebs. Tickets include garden Entry, with Tasty Treats including warming soup, burgers, hotdogs, indulgent hot chocolate and homemade brownies for sale from our Shepherd’s Hut. Under 5s go free when accompanied by a paying adult. The house and garden will be lit at dusk to complete the Halloween feel—adult £7, Child £5 and Family £21.

The spooky trail around the Arboretum at Walcot Hall on 1 November, 10 am-3 pm, includes storytelling, games, refreshments and crafts. Tickets are £6 per child (under 2s free).

Halloween show time

Enjoy comedy and chills in this original adaptation of the charming Oscar Wilde tale, The Canterville Ghost, at Ludlow Assembly Rooms on 31 October. Written especially for children and young families, this one-person show, featuring much audience participation, is guaranteed to raise more than just a ghost of a smile. Philip Jennings stars in a show written by Jonathan Goodwin (Don’t Go Into The Cellar) and directed by Gary Archer. Shows at 2 pm and 6 pm and tickets are £8.00.

Family fun and games

Everyone is welcome to the Wild about Westhope Autumn family event on 29 October. Take part in The Woodland Games and win a Giant Pumpkin. Make your own Witches Broom using traditional materials, and carve a pumpkin to take home. Sit around the Woodland Campfire and enjoy a hot drink and cake.

Halloween-inspired trail at Ludlow Museum

Taking place over two weekends, from the 27th – 29th of October and 3rd – 5th of November, Ludlow Museum at the Buttercross will be transformed into a haunted haven. Children and visitors can enjoy a spooktacular event as they navigate through the museum with the Halloween-inspired trail and spooky activities.  
 
Visitors are encouraged to come dressed in their spookiest attire. Entry is £1.20 and Children under 16yrs are FREE. Ludlow Museum is open Friday – Sunday and bank holiday Mondays, 10am – 4pm.
