It’s a vibrant start to 2022 in Ludlow. Here is a list of the exciting eateries and retailers that have made Ludlow their home including restaurants like Athena Greek Taverna and Cafe, the new Kin Kitchen, Epic Cycles have brought their warehouse to the town centre, the lovely Lanna Vintage Furniture shop you’ll delight in finding and get your veg box subscription from Dick’s Garden Market and Bakery. Plus, all the updates around town such as the newly available rather neat upstairs sitting area at Harp Lane Deli and the not-to-be-missed hot soup days at Myriad Organics.

Kin Kitchen, Ludlow

Where: 5 Old St., SY8 1NW
What: A stylishly refurbished, family run cafe in the heart of Ludlow with an emphasis on freshly cooked dishes and seasonal specials. The family say, “We have always dreamt of creating our own space to share our love of food and gathering together. When the building with its amazing garden became available, we saw our opportunity to create a spacious, relaxed and friendly environment for people to meet, eat and drink”.
Need to know: Closed on Monday and Tuesday

Athena Greek Taverna and Cafe

Where: Ludlow Mascall Centre, Lower Galdeford, Ludlow SY8 1RZ
What: Authentic Greek food in the heart of Ludlow. Everything there is to know about the fascinating tastes of Greek cuisine, born from the island of Hydra. The owners say, “Our love of Greek recipes and cooking hasn’t stopped, and now we embark on our journey to spread true authentic Greek cuisine to the people of Ludlow. Our friends and family love the food we serve up at gatherings and parties, and now being able to bring them to a wider audience is what Athena Taverna is all about”.
Need to know: Now offering takeaways between 5.00pm and 6.30pm on Friday and Saturday.

Where: 7-8 Tower Street SY8 1RL
What: The custom build and bike tailoring specialist, formerly located on Coder Rd., is opening soon in a newly refurbished warehouse on Tower St. The new store will offer a large open plan workshop/parts store in the main building that fronts the street and a bike showroom (by appointment) across a private courtyard in what used to be a brick built stable block and grain store. The owners say, “The idea is to provide customers who visit with a cool shopping experience while you are with us – including the return of free fresh coffee – plus easier access to Ludlow’s lovely town centre”.
Need to know: The new premises are well located for setting out on one of Epic’s mapped routes and will act as a base for the monthly Cross Cartel rides.

Little Twidlets

Where: 1 New Road, SY8 2NY
What: Little Twidlets is an eco-friendly shop run by local mum, Nicola. The shop offers a wide and growing range of products to help you live in a more sustainable way from organic children’s clothes, wooden toys and cloth nappies to reusable period wear, coffee cups and homewares.
Need to know: Nicola juggles the shop around her children so the new shop normally opens on Tuesday and Thursday 9.30-2 pm and Saturday 10-4pm but you can message her anytime via the website.

Lanna Vintage Furniture

Where: off Corve Street Wood Yard SY8 2PX
What: Lanna offers a variety of new and vintage home furnishings and decorative pieces from candles, baskets and mirrors to wardrobes and shelves. Pieces are sourced from all over the UK and Asia.
Need to know: tucked between the Library and Parkway shops, the entrance to Lanna is concealed but worth exploring this lane within the confines of the town centre.

Unwined Bar & Bistro, Tenbury

Where: Jesmond House, 2 Market Street Arcade, Tenbury Wells, WR15 8BQ
What: Mediterranean Bistro & Wine Bar serving brunch, tapas and charcuterie, accompanied with world wines, Spanish lager & cocktails. The local owners say, “Evenings at the bistro will be electric as the delicious food and drink continues to be served!”
Need to know: Open Tuesday to Saturday 10.00am – 3.00pm and 6.00pm-11.00pm

Dick’s Market Garden and Bakery

Where: Situated 5 miles north of Ludlow
What: Small scale, no-dig herbs and vegetables and fresh sourdough bread supplying shops in and around Ludlow and offering pick-up points in Ludlow, Church Stretton and Craven Arms. Rich and Kat moved back to South Shropshire to bring up their two young boys “amongst family, to create a way of living that teaches them how to embrace nature and to do our own little bit to protect their futures”.

In other news…

Myriad Organics are now offering hot, homemade, organic, vegan soup on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays available from 12 noon.

The little parlour — indoor seating area upstairs — at Harp Lane Deli is now open, daytime only, no booking required.

Ludlow Brewery is currently displaying, for the very first time, an amazing model of Ludlow’s demolished Victorian town hall by local artist David Jackman. For a closer look, pop in to the tap room, open 7 days a week.

Ludlow Museum at the Buttercross is currently offering free entry to visitors thanks to funding rom Ludlow Town Council.

Ludlow Assembly Rooms have released their Spring line-up of films and concerts.

And finally we bid a fond farewell to Jenny and the team at Orvis Ludlow which closed in early January. Jenny says, “We would like to thank you for your patronage and making our time in Ludlow so special.”
