If you’re planning a visit to Ludlow and want to go camping there are plenty of options. There are lots of beautiful walks to explore and plenty of activity to be found in the Welsh Marches. One spot we can highlight is Monstay Farm Camping and Glamping set within Mortimer Forest and just over two miles from the centre of Ludlow. Monstay Farm owners tell LGL what visitors can enjoy and how they’ve prepared to keep campers safe.

Monstay Farm Camping and Glamping is on a traditional working farm in the serene setting of Mortimer Forest. Visitors have easy access to the forest to go for walks, use the mountain biking trails, bird watch, nature watch or hunt for fossils.

The farm and forest are rich in wildlife, whatever your interest be it birds, mammals, butterflies or reptiles we will guide you to the best locations to observe. Equally, you can also choose to simply relax and soak up the fantastic views around you or do some star gazing!

Availability over the summer

Yes, we are open this summer for camping and the facilities are open too. We do have some space free but it is booking quickly especially the weekends.

Measures for Covid-19 and social distancing

Obviously we are working on limited numbers to allow plenty of space for people and so that facilities are not too pressured.  We are following the guidelines for COVID measures and qualify for the ‘Good To Go’ mark.  We are only open to bookings of two families or six people together and are strict about gathering together.

People have to book in advance and pay online. We meet new arrivals but with social distancing . We have hand sanitisers and extra hand washing facilities, signed queueing systems and increased cleaning and disinfecting measures.

Showers and barriers are all well spaced

We trialled a booking system for showers but so far it has not been needed as people are very aware and are spacing out their shower times naturally.  We have mowed the campsite to provide natural long grass barriers between pitches.

Our Shepherd’s hut has been reduced to basics and follow the protocol set by Airbnb — our main way of booking it.  It is cleaned and disinfected between stays and there is a day’s gap to enable that to happen.

Stargazer glamping tent is on the way

In August we hope to have a stargazer glamping tent available for booking too — somewhere to enjoy the starry skies.  Stay tuned by checking our website.

We have tried to manage the camp site to guide people to do the right thing without impacting too much on their enjoyment. But, it has been great to see so many happy people enjoying camping once again!
