Charlie’s Cottage is a wonderful self-catering holiday home, featuring a sitting room, kitchen, two bedrooms, bathroom and courtyard garden within minutes of Ludlow town centre. Awarded 4* self-catering accommodation by Shropshire Tourism, Charlie’s Cottage sleeps up to three and is situated in the beautifully preserved medieval market town of Ludlow.
The cottage is nestled down a quiet, pretty, street and is ideally situated for the train station (only a four-minute level walk) and a four-minute walk to the start of the town.
My husband and I were lucky enough to have bought the 17th Century cottage in November 2017 after it had been empty for nearly three years. We set about refurbishing it straightway, sympathetically mixing the wonderful historical character with modern luxury. We opened the doors to guests in March 2018 and Charlie’s has proved to be very popular! We want our guests to have a home-from-home holiday experience and to enjoy every moment of staying in a beautiful “compact and bijoux” black and white listed building.
The front door leads straight into the sitting room which has a wonderful cushioned window seat with a small Georgian oak table – a perfect spot to relax and read the paper, or sit with a drink and watch the world go by. The sitting room leads onto a well-equipped kitchen with ceramic hob, built in single oven, extractor hood, under-counter SMEG fridge, built-in dishwasher and top of the range appliances including a Nespresso coffee machine. There is a selection of glassware, crockery, Vera Wang cutlery, cookware and good quality saucepans if you prefer to self-cater.
The small oak stairs lead off from the sitting room. There are two bedrooms – one king-sized bed (with king-sized pillows) and one single bed, both have sprung mattresses and 100% cotton bedding and feather and down pillows and duvets for ultimate comfort and luxury.
The cottage has a good-sized bathroom with a large walk-in shower with rainfall shower head and a beautiful traditional freestanding vanity unit with a large mirror.
Charlie’s has a lovely, small, enclosed courtyard garden with a bistro table, comfy chairs and garden lighting — perfect for alfresco dining. We welcome short stays all year-round — minimum stay two nights and any day changeover, subject to availability. Plus we can offer free on-street parking too!
Places to go nearby
The Unicorn Inn — hoping to re-open on 17 July — has been popular with our guests as its stumbling distance away! Award-winning Ludlow Brewery, which has also recently reopened, is also a short walk from the cottage and definitely worth a visit.
One of our favourite walks from the Cottage is a gentle, quiet meander along the Linney, stopping off at CSONs for lunch or coffee and cake before making our way into the town and then back down Corve Street admiring the wonderful architecture of the houses and peeping in the windows of the lovely independent shops along the way. It’s a good “loop” walk.
Guests love shopping at our two fab delis too (Harp Lane Deli and Broad Bean), taking food back to the cottage or packing it for a picnic to sit down by the river.
