A little bit about me
Hello to everyone in Ludlow and its surroundings and especially to ‘Let’s go Ludlow’, which has given me the opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Andrea and I’ve been living in Herefordshire with my husband, two collies, one cat, numerous fish and chickens for three years now. We moved up from Buckinghamshire where, after a career in teaching, I started running children’s hand-sewing workshops.
I have always sewn. It started with me making doll’s clothes on my mum’s hand-cranked Singer sewing machine and it has been my means of relaxation ever since! Having trained as a teacher I realised that I could combine both skills and encourage a new generation to discover the joy (and usefulness!) of sewing. I started running children’s sewing workshops in Aylesbury, including classes at the Queen’s Park Centre (described by The Times as ‘the largest independent arts centre in the UK’) and these are still ongoing. When I arrived in Herefordshire, and realised that there was nothing similar around, I decided to start my own local sewing workshops.
Love to stitch
Lazy Daisy Chains now runs regular monthly sewing workshops at ‘The Children’s Bookshelf Bookshop and Kids Hub’ in Hereford; drop in sessions at 35 West Coffee shop in Leominster and holiday workshops at Tenbury Wells Library. Now, we are expanding with holiday workshops at the Loudwater Studio, Ludlow.
Lazy Daisy Chains philosophy is quite simple; to give children the opportunity to learn to sew and to use their imagination. In our workshops they are encouraged to design and stitch their own creations, experimenting with different fabrics, stitches and trimmings. Within each themed workshop children can develop a wide range of sewing skills and, most importantly, gain confidence whilst having fun.
Eggs & bunting
Our theme this Easter is ‘Eggs and Bunting’. Children can choose to stitch a colourful Easter egg, or decorate some pretty bunting with Easter motifs of their own choice. Our workshops are designed for children aged 7-11 and themes can be adapted to suit the novice or the more experienced stitcher. All materials and equipment are provided.
Loudwater Studio, or Loudwater Community Arts, is an amazing open access arts and crafts studio aimed at the whole community. It is situated on the Burway Trading Estate in Ludlow and is already known for its adult workshops. It is now expanding to include children’s holiday workshops and Lazy Daisy Chains has been invited to provide one of these. So I will be there on Wednesday 8th April from 1:00-3:30.
Booking is via Loudwater Studios and the cost is £10 per child. If you would like more information about Lazy Daisy Chains have a look at our fb page or contact me on 07709939503 or at merricafall@yahoo.co.uk
