There’s a new choir coming to town. This February, Tenovus Cancer Care will be starting two new chorale groups in Ludlow and Hereford. The groups will sing popular songs and don’t worry, you don’t need to be able to read music, there’ll be lyric sheets and you can learn the music by ear. It promises to be a very relaxed and supportive environment where you can enjoy singing and each other’s company.

Singing for support

The new ‘Sing with Us’ choir is part of a project funded by the National Lottery for anyone affected by cancer: patients, survivor, carer, family member or those bereaved through cancer. Tenovus Cancer Care already has a number of successful choirs in Wales and two in London, and the research that the charity has done on the choirs shows the huge positive impact it can have on choristers. All Tenovus Cancer Care choirs are great fun and act as a wonderful, informal support network for members.

Choir leader, Amy Elwin, will begin the Ludlow Choir on 27th February and it will run weekly from 10am – 11.30am and held at St Peter’s Parish Centre, Henley Road, Ludlow SY8 1QZ. It is free to attend.

There’s something about Amy

Amy Elwin has been singing and in choirs for as long as she can remember. She always knew song would play a major part in her life in one way or another.  Amy is a qualified secondary school music teacher and when developing choirs in her schools, she was always very keen for her students to have the opportunity to be in a choir and experience what it is like to be part of a special musical family. When asked what singing means to her, Amy says, “being in a choir has given me friendship, fulfilment, challenge, confidence and fun, so my aim was and is always to bring those elements to the members of my choirs!’.

Amy has recently relocated across the country to the Ludlow area and started working with Tenovus Cancer Care. Her role as choir leader was to start groups in both Ludlow and Hereford.  Amy says she is, “excited to get started with my new choirs and bring the choir love to the people of Ludlow and surrounding areas because I know that singing and being in a choir can make a huge difference to people’s lives”.
